Signing for Newcastle - Owen Goal or Will Michael Win Over the Toon Faithful?
Signing for Newcastle - Owen Goal or Will Michael Win Over the Toon Faithful?
LONDON, September 1/PRNewswire/ -- Cantor Spreadfair, the world's first sports spread betting exchange, has
seen the impact of the arrival of Michael Owen at St. James' Park on its
betting markets. However, how will he fair back in the Premiership after a
frustrating year at Real Madrid?
In relation to this question Cantor Spreadfair have made a market on how
many goals Owen will score in the rest of the Premiership season (34 games).
Early punter to punter trading on 'Owen - Premiership Season Total Goals'
is trading at around 14.5 - 15 goals for the season which suggests the Cantor
Spreadfair punters are optimistic about his tally this season. Early talkings
among the betting fraternity suggested this price might not be so
complimentary to Owen. However in light of the fact that it is World Cup
year, punters feel this will drive the popular England striker to hit top
form. Twinned with the fact that it is Alan Shearer's last season at
Newcastle, this should add weight to the fact that Newcastle, and Owen, will
be keener than ever for success.
Newcastle United's season has started poorly and the summer speculation
of a club in turmoil has been confirmed by a disastrous start to this year's
campaign. However, the late signings of Albert Luque and Owen have bolstered
their public perception, as well as their prices on Cantor Spreadfair. Before
Owen's arrival their season's points where quoted at 48 to 48.5 and have
subsequently moved up to 50 to 50.4 points. Similarly their end of season
finishing position in the league has fallen from 11 to 11.4 to 10.2 to 10.5.
Head football trader at Cantor Spreadfair Dave Stone remarks: "Owen is a
class striker, with international pedigree who has scored goals consistently
since turning professional. Punters seem to have grasped this fact and
Newcastle may just have made a very good late buy as long as they can provide
him with the service."
With the black and white of Newcastle raising similar passions that the
red of Liverpool does for Anfield, you can be sure that Owen will once again
be a striker at large in the Premiership.
