Ameristar Casinos and The Craig H. Neilsen Foundation Announces Over $250,000 In Katrina Relief Aid

Ameristar Casinos and The Craig H. Neilsen Foundation Announces Over $250,000 In Katrina Relief Aid

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ameristar Casinos, Inc.(NASDAQ:ASCA) and the private foundation of its Chairman and CEO, Craig H. Neilsen, are contributing more than $250,000 toward Hurricane Katrina relief. In addition, the Company will accept Team Member contributions for hurricane relief through its Workplace Giving Campaign, which it will match dollar for dollar.

Ameristar will contribute to the relief efforts immediately with:

- A donation of $250,000 to the American Gaming Association's "Gaming
Industry Katrina Relief Fund" from Ameristar Casinos, Inc. and The Craig
H. Neilsen Foundation. The AGA's fund is raising industry dollars to
provide disaster relief and assistance to affected gaming industry
employees in Mississippi and Louisiana.
- The Company's annual "Ameristar Cares Workplace Giving Campaign,"
beginning in mid-September, which will include a hurricane relief
organization as one of its designated charities. The Company will match
all Team Member contributions dollar-for-dollar. Last year, Ameristar's
Workplace Giving Campaign raised more than $1.5 million for charitable
organizations.
- The donation of hundreds of meals per day to the shelter at the
Vicksburg Convention Center to assist in feeding hurricane refugees for
an indefinite period of time. Food and beverage staff at Ameristar
Casino Vicksburg will prepare and deliver meals to the Convention
Center, which is housing people who fled to Vicksburg to take refuge
from the hurricane.

"I am proud to lead Ameristar in supporting hurricane relief efforts with a donation from the Company, my private foundation, and our Team Members," said Ameristar Chairman and CEO Craig H. Neilsen. He added: "We have all been deeply moved by the scenes of devastation along the Gulf Coast, and we feel a special concern toward our colleagues in the industry. We want them to know that our Company's charitable giving program, Ameristar Cares, is committed to assist in their recovery from this terrible disaster."

The city of Vicksburg escaped the full force of Hurricane Katrina, but the area has had power and phone outages following the storm. Ameristar Casino Vicksburg was closed on August 28 in preparation for the storm and re-opened for business August 31. The Vicksburg property sustained only limited damage due to high winds and heavy rain.

Ameristar will pay all Vicksburg Team Members for regularly scheduled shifts not worked during the closing. No Ameristar Vicksburg Team Members were injured in the storm, but some have experienced property damage. Ameristar maintains an Ameristar Cares Sunshine Fund to benefit Team Members who experience a crisis. These funds are available to Team Members affected by Hurricane Katrina.

About the Ameristar Cares Corporate Giving Program

Harrah's Creating Command Center to Assist Affected Employees

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:HET) today announced it is continuing its efforts to assist employees in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Harrah's focus remains on the safety and health of its nearly 8,000 employees in Biloxi, Gulfport and New Orleans. A Harrah's Employee Information Center is being created at the Harrah's Entertainment Corporate Center in Memphis, Tenn. The center will lead the effort to assist employees who have been evacuated and displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

To view the Multimedia News Release, go to: http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/harrahs/22667/

Other steps Harrah's is taking to provide relief include:

* Many banks have been destroyed, leaving many people without access to money. In addition, a very small number of Harrah's employees were not enrolled in the direct-deposit payroll plan, and actual paychecks must be printed and delivered to them. Harrah's will pay its employees from the three affected properties for up to 90 days;

* Harrah's is currently housing more than 400 displaced residents, mostly
non-employees, in the convention space of our Grand Casino in Tunica,
Mississippi. Harrah's is working with the American Red Cross, as well
as with two local churches, to provide these victims with food and
supplies;

* At Harrah's Lake Charles, a relief center was created to support
displaced employees and their families. In addition, Harrah's is
working with local agencies to supply food, water and emergency
supplies;

* Harrah's announced the establishment of the Harrah's Employee Recovery
Fund, with an initial commitment of $1 million from the Harrah's
Foundation. In addition, Harrah's nearly 100,000 employees around the
country will be given an opportunity to directly assist their
colleagues affected by this tragedy through donations via payroll
deductions.

* Several displaced employees from the Gulf Coast region have inquired
about opportunities to get back to work as soon as possible. We are
working to find these individuals employment opportunities at other
Harrah's properties not affected by the hurricane.

* In Las Vegas, Harrah's Entertainment's six properties offered free
rooms (up to two nights) to assist current guests from the Hurricane
Katrina-affected region who are unable to return home as a result of
the devastation.

As more definitive news and damage assessments become available, Harrah's will take additional steps to bolster relief efforts, and actively participate in the rebuilding of these vital communities.

Gaming Standards Association Making Significant Strides in Tribal Gaming

Gaming Standards Association Making Significant Strides in Tribal Gaming

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Gaming Standards Association has been making significant strides with its standards in Tribal Gaming across North America. Earlier this year, GSA's System-to-System (S2S) protocol was successfully implemented at the Seminole Tribe properties in Florida as well as the Poarch Creek Band of Indians' Riverside Entertainment Center. Now, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the Cherokee Nation are implementing S2S at their casino properties.

GSA Chairman Lyle Bell, who is also CIO for the Seminole Tribe, said, "Tribal operations have often been frustrated by the extensive amount of time and dollars involved to begin or to expand their casino operations because of obstructions caused by proprietary protocols. The dream of plug-and-play is coming true with GSA's standards. What's more, GSA's standards give Tribes and all operators more control, making their entire gaming operations more flexible."

The S2S standard provides a solid foundation for central accounting and ticketing. It is a standardized communication protocol enabling casino operators to link their various casino management systems together, and to easily connect them to hospitality and POS systems. S2S standardizes communication protocols, enabling machines and systems of different manufacturers to communicate correctly with each other. As with all GSA standards, the S2S standard is available free of charge to the industry on GSA's public website, www.gamingstandards.com.

Ron Harris, president of Rocket Gaming, has been working with various Tribes and spoke of GSA's standards. He said, "With GSA's standards, plug-and-play is here. GSA's standards are simply changing the way gaming content hits the casino floor. With the standards, operators can now freely move connections about the floor, in and out, without necessarily being concerned about who the vendor is. Instead they can make decisions based on which product is best, without worry about the back office interfacing, because now they know it will."

About the Gaming Standards Association (GSA): The Gaming Standards Association (GSA) is an international trade association representing gaming manufacturers, suppliers, operators and regulators. We facilitate the identification, definition, development, promotion, and implementation of open standards to enable innovation, education, and communication for the benefit of the entire industry. NEWS: Employee Emergency Relief Effort Started in Wake of Hurricane Katrina

STORY SUMMARY:

Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. announced it is working to provide its employees in the affected Gulf Coast communities with much-needed emergency relief, money, and information in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Harrah's will continue to provide its nearly 8,000 employees from the casinos in Biloxi, Gulfport and New Orleans with their regularly scheduled base pay for up to 90-days. In addition, Harrah's announced an initial $1 million grant from the Harrah's Foundation to the employee relief effort

Harrah's relief plan covering its three properties -- Grand Casino Biloxi and Grand Casino Gulfport in Mississippi, and Harrah's New Orleans -- includes helping their employees with the long task of rebuilding, as well as using the convention center at the Grand Tunica as an American Red Cross shelter for anyone seeking refuge. Food, water, bedding and facilities will be available at the shelter. The Harrah's Entertainment properties in Bossier City and Lake Charles, Louisiana, also are working closely with the American Red Cross to provide water, food and supplies for refugees. Nautica Charity Poker Festivals Expand Schedule in September and 2006

Nautica Charity Poker Festivals Expand Schedule in September and 2006

CLEVELAND, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Nautica Charity Poker Festivals will extend its 12-festival schedule with one additional festival in September benefiting Art on Wheels, the host charity, and more than double its schedule in 2006 with 24+ Festivals. The final 2005 Festival will be held Thursday, September 15th through Sunday, September 18th and feature a $50,000 Texas Hold 'Em tournament with first-place prize of $15,000.

"We wanted to host two festivals this summer and are really excited to do so," noted Carolina Martin, Executive Director of Art on Wheels. "Our first festival was a tremendous success and we are confident our second festival will be even better." added Carolina.

"Our goal is to raise over $500,000 in net income for charities this year and $1 million next year," said Dave Grunenwald, Vice-President of Development/Leasing for Jacobs Investments, Inc., the organizer of the event. Over $424,000 in net income will have been raised by charities hosting Nautica Charity Poker Festivals over the last 12 weeks, from fund-raising that reached out to new people as a source for revenue. That translates into nearly $9,000 net income per day for each charity hosting the four-day Festivals. Gross income raised by the charities over the past 12 festivals will be over $677,000, from which expenses including utilities, security and promotion are deducted.

This weekend's Festival is hosted by Northern Ohio Breast Cancer Coalition Fund. Other charities that have hosted Festivals include the Cleveland Police Athletic League, Art on Wheels, Easter Seals, Cleveland Baseball Federation, Special Olympics, Up Side of Downs, Cleveland Municipal Football Association, Amateur Figure Skaters of America Endowment Fund, Garfield Heights Athletic Booster Club and Church of the Transfiguration.

The Nautica Charity Poker Festivals consist of 12 four-day festivals featuring Texas Hold 'Em played in tournament and open-play format, inside an air-conditioned Festival Center at the Nautica Entertainment Complex. The final Festival will be identified as the 14th Festival, avoiding any association with the unlucky number 13. Festivals are held Thursday through Sunday and have run throughout the summer. Winners of tournaments have been awarded cash prizes of over $342,000 with a top weekly prize of $2,400 awarded on Sunday. In addition, thousands of dollars were won in open-play cash games. While players keep their cash winnings, each Festival is hosted by a qualified charity that receives 100% of the proceeds in the form of hourly seat fees and concession income.

"These festivals have accomplished exactly what we hoped. They have resulted in significant funds raised for the participating charities and have provided another entertainment alternative for the people of Northeast Ohio," said Dave Grunenwald.

"Everyone involved, including the participating charities, would like to thank the Cuyahoga County Commissioners, Mayor Campbell and Councilman Joe Cimperman for their support, which helped make this possible," added Grunenwald.

Information on the Festivals is available online at http://www.nauticacharitypoker.org/.

The Sands Regent Reports Fourth Quarter and Year-End Financial Results

The Sands Regent Reports Fourth Quarter and Year-End Financial Results

* Fiscal-year income from operations increases 60% from $4.9 million to $7.8 million

* Fiscal-year EBITDAR increases 47% from $10.1 million to $14.8 million

* Fiscal-year revenue increases 30% from $62.3 million to $81.1 million due to the acquisition of Rail City Casino

* Conference call scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PDT today

RENO, Nev., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Sands Regent (NASDAQ:SNDS) today announced financial results for its fiscal year 2005 and fourth quarter ended June 30, 2005. Separately, the Company also announced completion of the acquisition of Dayton Depot and Red Hawk Sports Bar in Dayton, NV.

Fiscal year 2005 net income was $3.8 million, or $0.59 per basic share, $0.55 diluted as compared to net income, including a one-time gain, of $6.9 million, or $1.32 per share basic, $1.24 diluted for fiscal year 2004. Prior-year results included a one-time, non-operating gain of $4.4 million in connection with the sale of the Copa Casino. The Company's income from operations improved 60% year over year, from $4.9 million in fiscal 2004 to $7.8 million in fiscal 2005.

For fiscal year 2005, the Company reported net revenues of $81.1 million, a 30% increase over $62.3 million in fiscal 2004 net revenues, primarily reflecting contributions from Rail City Casino, which was acquired in May, 2004.

EBITDAR, which excludes one-time gains, increased 47% year over year, from $10.1 million in fiscal 2004 to $14.8 million in fiscal 2005.

For the fourth quarter of 2005, ended June 30, the Company's net income totaled $1.4 million, or $0.20 per basic share, $0.19 diluted, compared to net income of $1.4 million or $0.26 per basic share, $0.24 diluted in the year-ago quarter. Quarterly income from operations was $2.6 million, as compared to income from operations of $2.9 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2004.

Quarterly net revenues were $21.2 million, a 3% improvement over fourth- quarter 2004 net revenues of $20.5 million. Strong results in the locals- oriented market segment were offset by weakness in the tourism-related market segment, principally resulting from the lack of a major bowling event in downtown Reno in the 2005 fourth quarter. Years without a major Reno bowling event occur once every three years. Business levels in both market segments were at anticipated levels in the latter part of the fourth quarter.

Quarterly EBITDAR decreased year over year, from $4.6 million for the fourth quarter of 2004 to $4.4 million for the 2005 quarter.

Ferenc B. Szony, President and CEO of The Sands Regent, commented, "Once again, we have demonstrated that our strategy to diversify our mix of local and tourism-related business has been successful. Our acquisition of the Dayton Depot and Red Hawk Sports Bar, which we completed and announced this morning, reinforces that positioning. Dayton is the largest town in Lyon County, which grew 16.3% between 2000 and 2003, making it Nevada's fastest- growing county and one of the fastest-growing counties in the United States.

"We look forward to continued success in 2006 as we pursue a major expansion at Rail City Casino, maximize the benefits of our recently installed slot management and ticket-in/ticket-out capabilities at Gold Ranch, bring our casino renovation at the Sands Regency to completion and integrate the newly acquired Dayton properties into our portfolio."

Mr. Szony concluded, "Consistent with our past practices, we have continued to pay down long-term debt, which stood at $36.9 million at the beginning of the fiscal year, to $19.9 million as of June 30, 2005. This demonstrates our success in execution of our growth strategy and provides us the flexibility to respond to future growth opportunities as they arise."

Management of The Sands Regent will host a conference call to discuss its year-end and fourth-quarter financial results today, Thursday, September 1 at 1:30 p.m. PDT. (1) In the year ended June 30, 2004, we recognized a $4.4 million gain
on a promissory note held by us in connection with a December 1998
sale of our interest in the Copa Casino in Gulfport, Mississippi.

(2) In June 2003, we realized a loss of $547,000, which stemmed from a
personal injury lawsuit filed against us. The Company had a
personal injury claim filed against it, from which we were insured
against loss, subject to a deductible. However, subsequent to the
incident which under lied the claim, we were informed that our
insurance carrier had become insolvent and unable to pay any claims.
The Company sought relief from its insurance broker and received
partial recovery of our loss in October 2004.

(3) EBITDAR includes earnings before depreciation and amortization,
interest expense, income taxes, rent, and any gain (loss) on the
sale or disposal of property or subsidiaries. EBITDAR is not a
calculation determined pursuant to generally accepted accounting
principles and is not an alternative to operating income or net
income, and is not a measure of liquidity. Since not all companies
calculate this measure in the same manner, the Company's EBITDAR
measure may not be comparable to similarly titled measures reported
by other companies. The Company believes that this disclosure
enhances the understanding of the financial performance of a company
with substantial interest expense, depreciation and amortization.
Prior to the Gold Ranch acquisition, the Company reported "EBITDA"
data. However, Gold Ranch has a substantial real property rent
component and the Company believes EBITDAR provides a more complete
depiction of the Company's financial position and performance.
Moreover, if the option of the Company to purchase the Gold Ranch
real property is exercised, which can happen at the Company's sole
discretion, the rental expense would be available for other uses by
the Company.

You Can Bet Home Prices Will Continue to Rise

You Can Bet Home Prices Will Continue to Rise

PinnacleSports.com Opens Betting on Median Home Prices in Several U.S. Markets

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Low mortgage rates and favorable market conditions have attracted buyers at staggering rates, pushing housing prices to all-time highs in the past year. Although the U.S. housing market continued its unprecedented growth in the second quarter, several economists, including Federal Reserve Chairman, Alan Greenspan, believe prices will peak and are predicting a real estate slowdown. With the housing boom on the minds of both buyers and sellers, PinnacleSports.com today released betting options on home prices in some of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States.

The first company in the world to offer betting on the average price of gasoline, PinnacleSports.com has expanded wagering into another economic indicator by offering betting options on third quarter median home prices in numerous metropolitan areas, as reported by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) on November 15. The oddsmakers at PinnacleSports.com are at odds with economists, predicting that third quarter prices in numerous metro areas will again show significant growth.

In the second quarter, NAR reported a median home price in the Phoenix market of $243,000, an increase of 47 percent over the same period in 2004. PinnacleSports.com has set an over/under line for the median price in Phoenix of $263,000 in the third quarter, an 8 percent jump in the nation's fastest growing market. The betting line for the nation's largest city, New York, has been set at $528,000 for the third quarter, a 4.2 percent increase from the last NAR report. Meanwhile PinnacleSports.com has set the over/under line on the average cost of a home in Boston at $423,000, whilst those looking to buy or sell in Los Angeles can expect a median price of $480,000, according to PinnacleSports.com. The oddsmakers at PinnacleSports.com also anticipate the price in San Francisco to approach $747,000. Median home prices in other metro areas that bettors can wager include: Chicago ($268,000); Washington DC ($454,000); Las Vegas ($307,000); Seattle ($324,000); San Diego ($619,000) and Philadelphia ($216,000).

"House prices in America continue to be driven by non-economic determinants and not by fundamental factors in the housing market," said Simon Noble of PinnacleSports.com. "With homebuyers prepared to buy as long as they believe prices will continue to rise, we're confident that our unique betting markets, which draw interest directly from the public, will once again be an accurate predictor of public opinion, as was the case when we offered wagering on the cost of gasoline."

PinnacleSports.com has opened betting lines on the median home prices for the third quarter of the year in more than 40 markets where bettors can wager on the over/under at -105 (i.e., win $1 for every $1.05 bet). For more information and a complete list of available odds, please visit http://www.pinnaclesports.com/ .

Eagles and Colts will lead NFL in wins, according to betting sentiment on Sportsbook.com

Eagles and Colts will lead NFL in wins, according to betting sentiment on Sportsbook.com

Odds maker also revises Super Bowl and Division Odds

NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Sportsbook.com has updated odds for total wins by each team in the 2005 NFL season. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts open with over/under odds of 11.5 wins, tops in the league, while two-time defending champion New England is listed at over/under 10.5 wins. Though some sceptics feel the San Francisco 49ers will struggle to win even one game, they are listed at over/under 4.5 wins for the year.

"We have updated our odds to reflect the betting trends," said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director, Sportsbook.com. "The biggest shift has placed the Colts as the frontrunner to take the Super Bowl and to lead the League in wins."

Despite the ongoing Terrell Owens saga in Philadelphia, the Eagles are still the pick of the crop in the NFC. The Indianapolis Colts have improved their chances to win the Super Bowl at odds of 6-1, closely followed by former favorites, the Eagles and Patriots both at 7-1.

"The NFL is easily the most bet on event in North America. The interest around the country is incredible and there's a lot of competition to bring the fans the most comprehensive betting options," added Czajkowski.

California Lottery Orders Additional Lottery Products from GTECH

WEST GREENWICH, R.I., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GTECH Holdings Corporation (NYSE:GTK) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, GTECH Corporation, has received an order from the California Lottery for a variety of lottery products including additional Altura(R) terminals, Instant Ticket Vending Machines (ITVMs), and other self-service lottery solutions.

"GTECH is constantly looking for ways to enhance the performance of our lottery customers, while, at the same time, considering the various needs of retailers and players," said GTECH President and CEO W. Bruce Turner. "Working together with the California Lottery, we have come up with effective solutions that will not only aid in their retailer network optimization and expansion efforts, but continue to drive lottery sales.

"And, as we see the growing retail demand for self-service solutions, the addition of GamePoint will provide California's retailers with the ability to dispense both traditional instant tickets and online tickets, from a player- friendly, kiosk-style unit," continued Mr. Turner.

Under the contract change order, GTECH will provide the California Lottery with 550 Altura terminals, adding to the 18,500 Alturas already in operation. In addition, 700 Altura LVTs will be installed, providing a powerful, yet, compact platform for retailers requiring a smaller terminal. The Company will also supply 12,500 Express Point(R) Plus devices, bringing the total to 19,000. The Express Point Plus terminals facilitate convenient player- activated identification of online winning tickets.

The Lottery will also receive 1,000 20-bin Expandable Dispensing System Quad Burster(TM) (EDS-Q) ITVMs, which will be used primarily as replacement machines. Along with the ITVMs, GTECH will provide 150 GamePoint(TM) terminals, the Company's new lottery self-service solution, combining the best of the instant ticket vending machine with online self-service capability. Over the next 90 days, the Lottery has agreed to order 200 additional ITVMs or 100 additional GamePoints, or some mix of the two equipment types.

With respect to the contract change order with the California Lottery, GTECH expects to receive approximately $8 million in product sale revenue, and $35 million in service revenue over the life of the existing contract which runs through October 13, 2009.

Powerball Jackpot Jumps to $53 Million!

Powerball Jackpot Jumps to $53 Million!

POWERBALL, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game is still on the way up. Even though Wednesday evening's draw did not generate a jackpot winner, 340,346 players across the nation won a total of more than $2.1 million in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $53 million.

The cash option for the Saturday, September 3rd drawing will be an estimated $26.7 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday night were 13, 17, 19, 41, 50 and the Powerball was 13. The Power Play multiplier was 2.

One lucky player in Arizona correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000.

Twenty players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Two additional players who won at this prize level also purchased the Power Play for a total win of $20,000!

More than 50,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prizes by 2 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than $13 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night. The lotteries sold approximately $2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY05. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Harrah's Creating Command Center to Assist Affected Employees

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harrah's Entertainment, Inc.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20021220/LAF055LOGO)
Other steps Harrah's is taking to provide relief include:

* Many banks have been destroyed, leaving many people without access to
money. In addition, a very small number of Harrah's employees were
not enrolled in the direct-deposit payroll plan, and actual paychecks
must be printed and delivered to them. Harrah's will pay its
employees from the three affected properties for up to 90 days;

* Harrah's is currently housing more than 400 displaced residents,
mostly non-employees, in the convention space of our Grand Casino in
Tunica, Mississippi. Harrah's is working with the American Red Cross,
as well as with two local churches, to provide these victims with food
and supplies;

* At Harrah's Lake Charles, a relief center was created to support
displaced employees and their families. In addition, Harrah's is
working with local agencies to supply food, water and emergency
supplies;
